Hi Brad, today you selected for MoW 4 of your artworks inspired by music. Can you tell MoW why did you choose these artists? What was the music behind the artworks ? What inspired you to create them ?
I chose these artist because for me at least, when the play you can hear the emotion in there music and that is what moves me as an artist. I listen to a watch and listen to hours of music and concert footage and lot of times its the look (the expression) on their face that I connect with.
Why is music important to you and your art?
I get asked "How can you listen to the same song for 20 to 40 hours straight?" My answer "For me and the music that I listen to and I only listen to live concert footage. Music should take you on a journey and they journey is not over in 3 or 5 minutes. The music should take you somewhere emotionally. If it doesn't then you are really not listening or your listening to CRAP!!! I try to express the journey in my artwork through of the musicians that I paint.
If you had to choose between the artworks presented today, which of your artwork would be your favorite ? And why ?
David Gilmour would be my favorite painting. The song was "Comfortably Numb" the solo he plays in my opinion is epic. He expresses so mush soul when he plays.
Can you tell MoW more about the techniques you used. How old is your technique? How did it start? How long does it take you to make an artwork?
I started doing my style because I was not happy with the end result of my paintings with just paint. So I added more texture and layers and the finial layer is stain. I think it really helps set the mood of the painting and pulls you in emotionally. It takes my about 70 hours to create my art.
Do you have plans on creating new artworks inspired by music ?
Yes, music is a very important part of my creative process.
Do you listen to music when you’re working ? If so, what kind of music ?
I listen to only live Rock concert footage while I work. Lately I have been listing to U2, Pink Floyd and some Jake White.
What is the song you liked the most lately? The album ? What was the last gig you went to ?
Right now the song would be Blunderbuss. I am painting a large abstract painting for a music company.
The last gig was a music festival I was fortunate to be back stage with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Jack White. Its was an awesome experience!!!
Are you a musician yourself ?
Unfortunately I am not a musician.
