Forty years ago, on August 16, 1977, “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” Elvis Presley died at his home in Graceland, Memphis, Tennessee.
Rock lost its first superstar. Presley was found unconscious and declared dead at hospital. He was just 42.
To celebrate this day, Music On Walls has asked visual artist DAIN to share with us his recent tribute to the King.
Could you tell us why you decide to create an artwork inspired by Elvis Presley? What's the story behind this artwork?
Grew up listening to all types of music, classical, punk, ska, hip hop, reggae and oldies. Elvis has one of those unique voices that you instantly know who is singing. For me not only the his voice but his style. The piece I made was a more contemporary Elvis wearing a baseball cap. I like this image because he is looking down and away
What is your top 5 songs of Elvis?
"Love Me Tender", "Unchained Melody", "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Suspicious Minds, "In The Ghetto".
Do you have plans on creating new artworks inspired by music?
I never real plan things but I did happened to create 2 more pieces inspired by music. Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Growing up in an Italian home everyone loves these 2 guys. Again voices that when you hear you just know who they are especially Sinatra.
